This website is for those looking for free sewing patterns for outdoor clothing and gear.

Please read all of this page first. Menu and links at bottom of page

I've forgone the 'eye-candy' associated with modern website bloat. What you see are the fastest loading webpages with the most amount of detail and nothing else... Viewable on any computer, Operating system, or Phone.

If your a grammar nerd and cringe at the mistakes on this site, then proof it and send me the corrected content... I'll unproof it and send it back.
If your affinity for improvement can increase the efficiency or quality of a pattern here, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, email me with your suggestions.

If you are here to learn how to make gear to surpass the pathetic attempt of mass produced crap, for which many have paid hard earned money, you have come to the right place.

Many independant taylors (Taylors - an occupation originally dominated by MALE majority and based upon design) and seamstresses (as in FEMALE gender and relating only to the occupation of assembling clothing articles) enjoy the craft of producing clothing which excels in a certain need. An old adage 'form follows function' is rare in todays contemporary design ethic. It appears companies and individuals are more directed to their market viability than they are about the actual product. It saddens me, in this day and age, that a consumer would gladly trade their savings for a product that must be replaced frequently rather than producing a product that only needs infrequent maintenance over a lifetime!

With a little help, we're going to make some quality stuff that...
- you'll be proud of (nothing says satisfaction like 'that's nice, where did you get it?'
- does what you want it to do
- lasts longer than anything you can purchase from a store
- will fustrate, with both time and technique, to no end
- will give you a life skill
- will broaden your creative horizons for future invention

First. Let's get some locations to source some of the materials we are going to need. Some of you may have some of the resources lying around your house, barn, motorhome, cave, treehouse, or bomb shelter. These are the best kinds of places to look. These are the best and cheapest places. That old blanket you never use. That old sewing machine in grandmas attic. Those old leather shoes and jackets in the garage. Wood from an old barn on your neighbors property. Braided fishing line on that old reel. There are so many places to get practice and final materials.
Ask first.

Other locations are a little further away... That trash bin out back at the cloth mill. a cobbler (shoe maker/repair) always has unusable leather scraps. Upholstry and furniture shops commonly carry wool by the yard. There's enough leather in most modern auto junkyards to cover your driveway. Goodwill, Salvation Army, Military surplus,  and other local  recyclers  always have good deals on cloth (these are also excellent places to source patterns - like a design but not the material? deconstruct!)

The sky is the limit when you begin to think resourcefully about where to get the things you need.

Lastly, you can get just about anything off of the internet. If you are reading this, then you, or someone you know, have access to everything you need. Do not feel like you have to pay the asking price listed. The art of negotion is still alive and it just needs to be brought back into play here in the States. Many Mom and pop internet stores will gladly cut deals to make the sale. Be reasonable with what you ask. Be reasonable with what you can give. Barter if possible.
Some of the best shopping places on the interweb:

Brettuns Village - low-cost source for leather and notions. the absolutely oddest range of colors and varieties on the internet. funny desciptions.
Sportsmans Guide - good military surplus find. they have revolving stock from all over the world.
Leather Unlimited - Great place for quantity and leather selvage/scraps by weight.
Sailrite - bar none, the finest portable heavy-duty sewing machines made.
Army Navy Sales - good place for wool and low-cost military clothing for pattern use
Fabric Warehouse - it's all here. best online prices for heavy wool.
Malden Mills Direct - outlet for polar fleece by malden. this is the best fleece for the lowest price. ebay resellers buy from here.
Fabriclist - this is an excellent listing for many different online stores for purchasing cloth and accessories.
Dharma Trading - lowest prices on rough raw silk (noil, the kind with the little nubbs on it). Silk is an excellent liner material.

I will not bother to explain the essentials of contructing cloth and materials together. Take a little time from your day to dabble throughout the internet and learn a little about the How's and Why's of sewing.

I will attempt to detail everything to the best of my ability and provide the extra attention needed to help you complete your project. Nothing on this site is technically copyrighted.
